The automated interpretation uses algorithms based on the percent predicted cutoffs. These interpretations do not account for occupational history, imaging findings, or clinical context. I have seen defense counsel quote the "within normal limits" language to a jury while ignoring an FEV1 of 78% in a 45-year-old former underground miner with silicosis on CT scan. Your pulmonologist interprets the data, not the machine.
